Jonathan Glew

Jonathan Glew is a freelance theatre director and composer.   Most recently he has been working alongside Jamie Lloyd as associate director on The Pinter at the Pinter Seaon, Betrayal (West-End and Broadway) and the Seagull.

Whilst his work as a director and composer often overlap, this website aims to focus on Jonathan’s directoral output.  For more information on Jonathan’s compositional work please visit

Jonathan has recently  completed work on a new musical adaptation of ‘A RAKE’S PROGRESS’ in collaboration with Robert Farquhar.  The production is based on the series of Hogarth Paintings of the same name and follows the rise and fall of Thomas Rakewell as he attempt to negotiate his way through the ranks of British society.

A new musical by Robert Farquhar & Jonathan Glew


Jonathan has most recently been working at LIPA with the 3rd Year Actors on the LIPA Showcase.  He both directed the show alongside compoing some original songs for the production which played at the SOHO Theatre, London and HOME Theatre, Manchester.  He also made a digital version of the show which can be seen here.  Filmed by Brian Roberts with sound by Robert Atkinson.


Jonathan is thrilled to be returning as Associate Director on THE SEAGULL at The Harold Pinter Theatre in the West End which runs from 29th June - 10 Sept ’22



In late 2021 Jonathan directed a new adaptation of Mother Courage with 2nd year actors at LIPA.  He composed 8 new songs for the production

Jonathan is currently working as director and compoer on a new musical adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s ‘TREASURE ISLAND’ with celebrated playwright Robert Farquhar.  

A workshop of the first half of the show will be taking place at the Liverpool Institute For Performing Arts this Easter.
